Rob McClain is a designer and fabricator exploring sculpture using his extensive knowledge of materials and use of skills working with welding and finish carpentry. He has created set and prop design for theater productions, major films and series work. He has fabricated components for sculpture artists and photographers, as well as worked as a voice actor and minor parts actor, and is a recording and performing musician. He is currently studying for his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota where he is exploring his individual voice as a visual artist.
Using his extensive skills, he reaches back to his childhood love of creating environments using what is around him. He creates movement and tension using found objects and marrying them to clean landscapes of metal, plastic and wood. Rob takes from his background of working in film, theater, and music performance a unique approach to lighting and sound to create perspectives that are distinctive to each space. He invites the viewer to explore the environment around the sculptures to gain their own personal interpretation of the work.
